Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you healthy, relaxed, and enjoying the final weeks of summer!
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Geoffery Farr, and I am the new Director of Safety for District 130. For the last 27 years, I was a police officer for the City of Blue Island, serving as Chief of Police for the last four. During that time, I made it a point to respect our past while also preparing the next generation for the future. It is my intent to do the same in my new capacity here.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in public safety management as well as a master’s degree in criminal justice. I have completed the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command program and the Police Executive Role program through the Illinois Training and Standards Board.
My purpose for joining District 130 is clear; to provide your children with an optimal learning environment, free from worry about their safety. For such an ambitious goal, I will need to ask for your help. The district subscribes to the “I Love U Guys” Standard Response Protocol to provide consistent and clear actions to take in the event of an incident. Please take a few minutes every week to review these actions with your children to help eliminate any uncertainty should the need arise.
HOLD – Clear the hallways and remain in the room or area until “All Clear” is given.
SECURE – Return to the inside of the building.
LOCKDOWN – Move away from sight. Maintain silence. Do not open the door.
EVACUATE – Leave belongings behind. If possible, bring your phone. Follow instructions.
SHELTER – Use the appropriate safety strategy for the hazard:
Tornado - Evacuate to shelter area
Hazmat - Seal the room
Earthquake - Drop, cover, and hold
Flood - Get to high ground
I look forward to working with you and your children. Should you have any specific concerns, feel free to email me directly - Gfarr@district130.org. If you are interested in joining the safety team, click here to explore job opportunities.
Respectfully,
Geoffery Farr
